Poetry Out Loud

Poetry Out Loud Logo

Welcome to Poetry Out Loud! Poetry Out Loud is an annual competition that is held at the classroom, school, state, and national levels. Students are asked to memorize and recite poems written by professional poets. Poetry Out Loud is a partnership of the National Endowment for the Arts and Poetry Foundation. The goal of the competition is for students to gain confidence in public speaking and performing while developing deep into poetry. Ms. Franks and Mrs. Jamieson have incorporated this competition in sophomore English classes. We had nine students participate in the FMHS 2019-2020 school competition. This is growth from last year, and we are so excited to see the event growing! The winner of the school competition  will have the opportunity to go to Denver to compete in the state-wide competition. The winner of this competition will receive $200 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington D.C. to compete at the national level . The winner ( and school of the winner) of the national competition can win up to $50,000 in awards and stipends. More information about this program can be found at Poetry Outloud website.
